Can you also contract STIs during anal sex?

Yes, STIs can also be transmitted during anal sex. The skin in the intestine is much more sensitive than that of the vaginal walls and therefore more susceptible to small injuries and irritations, through which germs can enter the bloodstream more quickly. In addition, the rectum contains bacteria that can cause unpleasant bladder infections in women. It is therefore important to use a condom during anal sex.

What if anal sex doesn't result in ejaculation, am I safe?

No. Unprotected anal sex carries the greatest risk of contracting HIV – even without ejaculation. Therefore, always follow the safer sex rule: anal sex only with a condom. Get counselling immediately after a condom split or an "accident".

Why does unprotected anal sex, even without ejaculation, carry such a high risk of HIV transmission?

The anal mucosa is thin and is very often injured during anal sex. There is also a risk of contracting hepatitis B, herpes, syphilis and other infections.

Condoms protect against HIV infection during anal sex and reduce the risk of transmitting sexually transmitted diseases. There are particularly tear-resistant condoms (e.g. ceylor Strong) that provide especially good protection.

Do you need special condoms for anal sex?

No, not necessarily. Even though the use of particularly strong condoms such as ceylor Extra Strong is best. However, we advise against using extra-thin, nubby or ribbed condoms. Never use two condoms on top of each other, this does not offer double protection! On the contrary, friction can cause both condoms to tear.

Are finger games in the anus dangerous?

No, there is no risk of contracting HIV. However, if the fingers are brought to or into the mouth after contact with the anus, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as herpes, hepatitis A or gonorrhoea can be transmitted.

Do I have to use a new rubber during anal sex?

When changing positions (e.g. first anal intercourse and then vaginal intercourse), a new condom should be used or the penis should be washed off so that bacteria from the rectum do not reach other places (e.g. the mouth).
